“Aww, my granddaughter was beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. She was a princess, so smart,” said Hernan Paredes.
Now all that Hernan has is these memories of his grandaughter, 8-month old Angelie Paredes. “I’m going to miss everything, you know? Her growing up, coming visit me, or when go and see her. I can’t go to the playground or the park. I’m not going to be able to do that,” said Paredes.
Paredes lives in Steelton but his son, daughter-in-law, and Angelie live just outside of New York City. On Tuesday morning her mother took Angelie for a walk in her stroller in West New York, New Jersey. The unthinkable happened.
“A bus just hit a little girl, it hit a little girl! I don’t know what happened, she’s crying!” exclaimed a witness on the phone with a 911 dispatcher.
“A bus just crashed on 57th and Broadway! There’s a little baby!” explained another witness on the phone with a 911 dispatcher.
The out of control bus slammed into several parked cars and a pole.
“The bus struck the light pole and knocked it down and hit my granddaughter in the head. She was bleeding pretty bad,” said Paredes.
Angelie died at the scene and seven other people were sent to hospitals.
“It’s unbelievable. I don’t know how we’re going to do it without her,” said Paredes.
The bus driver, identified by the sheriff’s office as 48-year-old Idowu Daramola of Thornwood, N.Y., is facing charges of reckless driving, using a cell phone while operating a vehicle and death by auto.
“There’s no way, no matter what they do to him, There’s no way we are going to get our baby back,” said Paredes.
