Army Staff Sgt. from Quarryville killed in Afghanistan

The Department of Defense reports the death of Staff Sgt. Patrick Quinn, 26, of Quarryville, Lancaster County.  Sgt. Quinn died Sunday, October 13 of wounds received from small arms fire in Paktika Province, Afghanistan.

Sgt. Quinn join the Army in July 2006. Upon completion of his initial training, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment at Fort Wainwright, Alaska.  He served a combat deployment to Iraq from September 2008 to August 2009. He volunteered and graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in 2013.

Born in Delaware he was raised in Quarryville. He is survived by his wife and three sons. Sgt. Quinn was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart, the Bronze Star, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with Campaign Star and the NATO Medal.
