The storm has come and gone, but not before dropping one to six inches throughout York County. The intensity and time that it hit made for a messy morning commute.

“They weren’t bad when I was in bed, until I got the call from him to come rescue him!” said Judy Waltersdorff after she had to help her husband pull his car out of a ditch along Route 24 in Windsor Township. “It came quick. He left Airville at about 20 after six until he got to Red Lion it was snowing. When he got out here he had to turn around to go back because the roads were that bad. So it hit quick. I think that surprised a lot of people!”

PennDot crews in York County started preparing for the storm at 4 a.m. “We have 55 state trucks and we also have 19 rentals for a total of 74 covering all of our state routes in York County,” said Mike Summerville, Assistant Highway Maintenance Manager with PennDot.

Despite a full fleet crews still had some difficulties Tuesday morning. “As our trucks were trying to maneuver in and out of traffic and accidents, it was very hard for us to get around. It hit us pretty hard and pretty fast this morning. About 5:45 a.m. it actually started on the western side of the county and by 7 o’clock we had roads covered,” said Summerville.
