A Lebanon County Borough has been plagued with sinkholes recently and now a fifth has opened up in the same section of Palmyra.

Back in October, people living along East Cherry Street were evacuated from their homes after four sink holes opened up and there’s no word on when or if they’ll ever be allowed to come back.    The fifth sinkhole opened up along South Grant and East Cherry streets over Thanksgiving.
Palmyra Borough Manager Roger Powl tells FOX43 they don’t have a clear answer as to what is causing these sinkholes to open up. They are currently doing geological testing to try and get some answers.

“ It’s unsettling because you can’t control it. That’s why we’re doing geological testing to determine the extent of the sinkhole in that area is and to see if it is expanding or to see if there’s something the holes are gravitating towards,” says Powl

Fox43 spoke with one homeowner on that block and she says the borough isn’t responsible for the sinkhole in her front yard because it’s on private property. She’s been out of her home since October. But, she’s still looking for answers.

“We keep waiting for someone to tell us what to do, how we need to move on. No one gives us any sort of inkling how to move on,” says Elizabeth Stoltzfus of Palmyra
Powl also tells FOX43  that one of the reasons he thinks could be causing these sink holes is because Palmyra doesn’t have a drainage system. He says that’s something they’re working with borough council to get installed.
