Police incident shuts down southbound I-81 at Exit 20 in Franklin Co.

A police incident has shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 81 between Exit 20 and Exit 17 in Franklin County.

PennDOT reported on 511pa.com that the southbound lanes of I-81 were closed and detours were in place to direct drivers around the scene.

Motorists should expect delays throughout the morning as authorities continue their investigation.

Police did not immediately release any details surrounding the incident.

Detour Information:

All southbound traffic must exit the Interstate at Exit 20. Red detour signs have been installed to direct you along this detour route. At the end of the ramp, turn left onto Pa 997 South. Follow Pa 997 south 5.2 miles to the traffic signal at US 30. Turn right onto US 30 west, and continue on US 30 west for 6.4 miles. The entrance ramp for Interstate 81 at Exit 16 will be on your left. Repeating, Interstate 81 South is closed between Exits 20 and 17. Follow the red detour signs at Exit 20.
