United Water says cold weather is to blame for a water main break on a 12-inch diameter main in Hampden Township. That break caused low water pressure for customers this morning in the Borough of Mechanicsburg and portions of Hampden Township, Monroe Township and Silver Spring Township.  The break occurred on Brackbill Boulevard, near Salem Church Road.

The break occurred at a time of heavy usage.  Additional water is being routed to these areas.

United Water crews are attempting to make repairs, which will take several hours.

Updates will be posted at this site throughout the morning.

UPDATE (8:30 a.m.)

Water pressure is expected to be increased for most affected customers by mid-morning.  After water is rerouted, it takes time for system pressure to return to normal levels, especially during times of heavy demand.  Repair work is now expected to take until early afternoon because of the severity of the main break, which is related to the cold weather conditions
