A man accused of beating and robbing a 44-year-old employee at the Family Dollar store in Harrisburg in Jan. 2013 was captured in New York earlier this month, police said.

Angel Tirado, 39, of New York, was arrested and charged with robbery, aggravated assault, false imprisonment and unlawful restraint. The incident happened Jan. 19 after the woman  opened the store for business along the 400 block of South Cameron Street. Police say Tirado attacked the woman from behind and held a knife to her throat. He demanded money, access to the safe and the woman’s cell phone and purse, police said.

The woman was punched repeatedly as she tried to fight her attacker off, police said. Eventually, the woman was knocked unconscious and Tirado fled the store.

Tirado was arrested on Feb. 12 and extradited from New York to Pennsylvania.

According to police reports, Tirado had been traveling south and stopped in Harrisburg for a few weeks when he committed the crime.
