The race for the York County State Senate seat is heating up. 2 republican candidates, Scott Wagner and Ron Miller, have started airing TV ads that have taken a negative turn.

It started with an ad that was paid for by the Senate Republican Campaign Committee supporting Ron Miller who is a State Representative for the 93rd District. The ad criticizes Scott Wagner as a millionaire who’s trying to buy an election. In response Wagner signed off on an ad that accuses Representative Miller as catering to the needs of the Republican State Senate leader Dominic Pileggi.

“I’d prefer if we didn’t do it this way, but if people are going to play the game this way it might be expected that others might do the same” said Representative Miller. Wagner said “if they want to go negative the bottom line is they are attacking someone who is successful. Someone who created jobs.”

Both men say their background is why they’re best qualified for the job. Miller has served as a State Representative for 16 years. He’s chaired the House Labor and Industry Committee and currently chairs the House Environmental Resources and Energy Committee.

Wagner owns and operates Penn Waste, a trash hauling business in York County that employs more than 300 people. “I have touched every aspect of running a business over the last thirty five years and what sets me apart is that I’m not a career politician” said Wagner. Representative Miller said “I’m running on my record and on my accomplishments and on my background.”

Representative Miller is the chosen republican candidate for the March special election. Wagner is running a write-in campaign. The winner of the special election will then be on the ballot for the May primary election. Both Miller and Wagner will likely square off again fro the republican nomination.
