There is no greater gift than giving the gift of life. On Sunday, organ donors were remembered and honored at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in Dauphin County.
Friends and family representing organ donors from July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013, were on hand. Each received a rose; symbolizing their loved one’s gift.
Speakers at the emotional event included the parents of an organ donor and a liver transplant recipient.
“Words can not express the thanks and gratitude. All I can do is appreciate every day because as Walter Payton said, who was someone similar who had PSC (Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis), tomorrow is promised to no one. I’m just very thankful for everyone here at Hershey, if it weren’t for so many people, I wouldn’t be standing here today, said Wesley Mallicone.
Mallicone suffered with liver disease since he was a child and received a liver transplant at Hershey six months ago.
The Organ Donor Remembrance Ceremony is held every year and is organized by staff from the Medical Center and the Gift of Life Program.
