PennDOT maintenance crews on Monday, April 7, will be repairing a sinkhole that has developed along westbound Route 422 in the vicinity of East Derry Road (State Route 2012) at the east end of Derry Township, Dauphin County. The repair operation is expected to start soon after 7 a.m. and will affect both directions of the morning commute. The traffic signal at this intersection will be placed on flash, and flaggers will assist motorists through the work area. Traffic delays are expected due to this repair operation. Approximately 15,375 vehicles travel on this portion of Route 422 on a daily basis.

Motorists are advised to seek alternate routes or allow additional time in their travel plans in order to avoid delays. Motorists are also asked to be alert to this operation and to slow down when approaching and driving through the work zone – for their safety as well as for the safety of the work crews.

The PennDOT crews first need to excavate and determine the size of the sinkhole. Depending on this determination, the repair work may take most of the day to complete
