We’re all used to modern conveniences. But, in York County this weekend, an historic event took its audience back to the days of hard work and horse power.
The Menges Mills Historic Horse, Steam and Gas Show was held on the grounds of the York County 4H Center in West Manchester Township.
It offered a number of family friendly events that also serve as a history lesson for children.
Steam and gas-powered engines and tractors were on hand, along with craftsmen demonstrating their skills.
Youngsters were entertained with games and hand-on activities, just like things were done decades ago.
Donna Sheaffer, Secretary & Treasurer of the Menges Mills Historic Horse, Steam & Gas Association says, “They (the children) might be watching or they might be actually participating and they get so excited because this is so much fun, when those of us who are older know no, this is a lot of work but as long as you’re having a good time, that’s a good thing.”
The Horse, Steam and Gas Show started in 1986 and has grown in size over the years.
Organizers say it’s a way to preserve history for both children and adults.
