Some teens from Cumberland County recently returned from a mission trip in El Salvador where they helped families living in poverty.
Teenagers from Christian Life Assembly in Camp Hill spent 10 days helping disadvantaged families living in tin sheds. The group met with nearly 1,000 kids while visiting the country. Those who went along say the amount of violence in the cities is forcing many to leave to save their lives. Refugees from El Salvador are part of the group of people arriving in Texas to escape Central America.
“[They] just want to go and be free, I guess, and get away from all the poverty. You could be living one minute and die the next, and it`s very hard to get around in El Salvador without worrying about every move or step you make,” 15-year-old Carissa Parson from Christian Life Assembly, said.
Some of the refugees leaving El Salvador have already arrived in Central Pennsylvania. They’re staying in Dauphin, Cumberland, and Perry Counties to escape the violence in their own country.
