Located in the heart of Historic Gettysburg, Sunset Ice Cream Parlor has been dishing out sweetness since 1986.

“I was 12 years old and I remember walking into this store getting 90 cent ice cream cones,” said Stuart McLean.

Stuart and his brother Marc McLean now own the ice cream shop, which just scooped up the #10 spot on TripAdvisor’s list of ‘Top 10 Ice Cream Shops in America.’

“I had to check twice,” Stuart said. “I couldn’t believe it.”

“We’re just honored; I think it’s awesome,” Marc added.

We asked customers of all ages to weigh in on their favorite flavor and that list seemed never-ending.

“My favorite flavor is the chocolate chip cookie dough,” said Trevor Bounds.

“I got the orange soft, which I’ve never had before, on a pretzel cone and it was unbelievable,” added Sean Boyer.

“I got the black cherry in a waffle cone and it was fantastic,” said Steve Kohrt, who is visiting Gettysburg from Iowa.

The McLean brothers say all their ice cream is homemade right here in Pennsylvania.

“It’s made by a husband and wife in Williamsport; John and his wife make it and they just ship it as we need it,” said Marc.

Most of their flavors also pay tribute to the city’s rich history.

“We have one called a ‘cannonball crunch,’ which is a mocha flavored ice cream with cookie dough pieces in it. We also have a sundae called a, ‘Rebel-Yell,’” Marc said.

The McLean brothers say they’re inspired by the national recognition and hope to continue dishing out happiness for years to come.

“You walk into an ice cream parlor and you want to have a good time, and that’s what you get,” Stuart said.
