If you travel through Lebanon County your travel could be affected by a construction project along Route 422 in North Londonderry Township. PennDOT announced that beginning Monday August 4th construction crews will close a section of Route 422 for up to 90 days. The road closure is between Plaza Drive and Apple Blossom Road in North Londonderry Township.

Construction crews will build a span over a sinkhole and reconstruct the roadway.

The $844,422 contract was awarded on May 15 to Reading Materials, Inc. of Skippack, Berks County, and includes installing a 100-foot long concrete slab the width of the roadway, and five steel-reinforced concrete beams supported by five concrete caissons to span a sinkhole. Work under this construction contract is scheduled to be completed this fall,” said PennDOT Spokesperson Mike Chrochunis.

Detour
Traffic and trucks should use the detour which follows Route 934, U.S. Route 322 and Route 117. Local traffic will follow Apple Blossom Road, East Maple Street and Plaza Drive around the road closure.

An average of nearly 15,540 vehicles travel this section of U.S. Route 422 every day. To avoid delays, motorists should seek an alternate route or allow for additional time in their travel plans,” said Chrochunis in a press release.
