Police Officer Hurt in Overnight Shooting

Philadelphia police say an officer was hurt and a suspect killed during an exchange of gunfire overnight.  The shooting happened shortly after 12:30 Tuesday morning.  Police say the gunman was shot several times and taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.  The officer is being treated at the hospital and is awake and talking.  Police say the officers initially responded to a call for a heavy-set person with a gun in the street.  When officers showed up the shooter began firing at them.  Police do have the suspect’s gun  in their possession.
