West Hempfield Township Police and Columbia Borough Police say there has been a rash of thefts from vehicles recently. Suspects are entering unlocked vehicles and taking whatever valuable items can be found, including cash, phones, tools, and GPS units. The thefts are most prevalent on the western border of the Township where it joins Columbia Borough.

One victim reported the theft of lottery tickets from his vehicle in the 2400 block of Ironville Pike. Subsequently, within hours of the theft, the suspect cashed in one of the winning tickets at a local store. A camera at the store caught the suspect cashing in the ticket.

Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect -and they are encouraging people to keep their vehicles and home locked at all times. Police advise against keeping valuables in vehicles. Residents should contact police immediately if they see suspicious activity in their neighborhoods.

Please contact Corporal Miles Bixler or Corporal Douglas Ober if you can identify the suspect in the photographs @ 717-285-5191, or tips can be made to Lancaster County Crime Stoppers @ 1-800-322-1913
