How far would you go to help others live a healthier life? Two women from Central Pennsylvania climbed Mount Kilimanjaro so others can access an everyday necessity.

In some of the world's poorest communities, clean water's hard to come by.

Michelle Deller, of Lancaster County says, "Nobody has access to running water in their homes, it's something unfathomable here."

So last month, Deller, and her friend Pammi Simone traveled with 22 others to Ethiopia and Tanzania to see how bad the conditions are.

Deller says, "There's just so much more we can do when it comes to water."

...Like climbing the tallest peak in Africa.

Deller says the climb was, "Hardest thing I've ever done."

The group's 6-day challenge is part of Compassion International's mission to help others.

Deller says, "There's an African phrase Hakuna Matada, just take one day at a time, that's what they encouraged us to do for the climb."

It took the team 4 and a half days to climb to the top.

Deller says, "We started at base camp at 6000 feet and summit is 19,341 feet and each day you take it very slow, the theme of the mountain is pole pole, which means slowly slowly."

But surely, they made it to the top of Kilimanjaro.

Simone says, "We did this epic journey that was very fulfilling and taught each person about themselves and the world."

Every step of their adventure proved meaningful.

Deller says, "Going to the village and seeing the water source they had and knowing we would make a difference, it brought it all together."

Simone says, "To sacrifice a tiny part to better the lives of somebody in another part of the world is not difficult and means so much to them."
