Valhalla, NY (WPIX) — There are “numerous” fatalities after a Metro-North train collided with a car in Valhalla Tuesday evening.

Among the dead are passengers aboard the train, according to the Metro-North.

The northbound Harlem line train from Grand Central Terminal struck the black Jeep Cherokee at the Commerce Street crossing in Valhalla at about 5:44 p.m.

According to the Metro-North, the gates came down on top of the vehicle, which was stopped on the tracks. The driver got out to look at the rear of the car.

She got back into her car and attempted to drive forward, but became stuck.

The female driver was pronounced dead.

Officials say the third-rail pierced the train, but did not hit any customers.

About 400 customers were evacuated from the train and were taken to a local gym.

In addition to the fatalities, 12 people were injured. Eleven were taken to Westchester Medical Center and one was taken to Phelps Memorial in Sleepy Hollow.

The Metro-North originally said 6 people were dead, but have since retracted that number.
