BITTER COLD MOVES IN
A clipper system races across the region this evening, bringing snow squalls, and then brutally cold temperatures and winds in its wake. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the region through early Sunday morning. Snow showers and snow squalls move through until around 11 P.M. tonight. Be ready for rapidly changing conditions; snow squalls bring reduced visibilities, strong winds, and quick snow accumulations. A total of 1 to 3 inches of snow expected throughout the area before all quiets down after midnight. Then, blustery winds pick as an arctic air mass barrels into the region through the night. Lows plummet into the single digits. Winds gusting from 40 to 50 miles per hours bring dangerous wind chill values as low as -5 to -20 degrees at times. Wind Advisories and Wind Chill Warnings go into effect tonight. Sunday the blustery conditions and brutal wind chills continue. Afternoon highs only reach the lower teens.
RECORD COLD LIKELY
Winds diminish significantly Sunday night, but the coldest air so far this season is expected. Temperatures fall below 0 across the region, with light breezes bringing wind chill values to -10 to -20 degrees at times. Record cold lows will likely be set for Monday morning, and perhaps record cold high temperatures during the afternoon. Afternoon high temperatures reach the lower to middle teens. Tuesday is less cold, but temperatures are still well below seasonable averages, in the lower to middle 20s.

Some snow showers are possible Tuesday night into Wednesday as we watch the track of a storm system that looks to just miss us. Otherwise, it’s another blast of brutal arctic air through the end of the week. Thursday and Friday look like a repeat of the next couple days. Saturday temperatures rise back into the 20s, and we’ll be watching the development of yet another storm system for possible impacts across our region.
