Three Adams County High School freshman are trying to make every teenage dream come true. They’re offering prom dresses to anyone who can’t afford one, for free.
You name it, these three have collected it. Dresses long, short, and in every color.
Madi Khols, Aley Abate, and Savannah Hurst started ‘Happily Ever After’. It’s a charity focused on giving free prom dresses and accessories to anyone who can’t afford one. They got the idea from Madi’s mom. Her family had a hard time footing the bill when it came to her high school dance dresses.
“She said you know mom – I don’t want that to happen to anybody else. I want them to be able to have a beautiful dress that they can be proud of so we decided lets give it a try,” said Heidi Khols, Madi’s mom.
The idea to collect dresses for girls who can’t afford one started a little over a month ago. And now they have over 100 dresses.
“It’s crazy. It’s unbelievable just how much the community supports us. Especially because we started so late and we have all this support already,” said freshman, Madi Khols.
Donations have poured in for the Littlestown High School freshmen. They hope whoever wears these dresses walks out with not just a new dress… but a new found confidence.
“It breaks my heart that they can’t feel beautiful for that one night and I just hope we can give them that with the dresses that we have here,” said freshman, Savannah Hurst.
‘Happily Ever After’ has been so successful, collecting 136 dresses in less than 30 days, that they’re going to continue throughout all four years of High School.
“I’m so looking forward to the years to come,” said Madi Khols.
“The fact that they put this together – it’s not shocking – it might be shocking to some people that 14-year-olds did this but if you knew those 14-year-olds… it’s not shocking,” said Heidi Khols.
The girls are giving away the dresses at an event on Saturday, April 4th. It’s from 10-2pm in Littlestown, Adams County at Lil’ Starz Learning Center, 212 South Queen Street, Littlestown, PA.
The charity does not accept monetary donations but does accept clothing donations such as dresses, shoes, and accessories.
