CAMP HILL, Pa. — In the past year, 19 bicyclists were killed in motor vehicle crashes in Pennsylvania. Riders in the Harrisburg area paid tribute to those victims Wednesday night.

Riders gathered in Camp Hill to take part in the “Ride of Silence.” The event was organized by Bike Harrisburg as part of the international Ride of Silence initiative.

The ride concluded at the steps of the Capitol in Harrisburg, where riders took part in a memorial by placing candles at the feet of 19 white bikes.

Advocates say the goal of the event was to provide better education to all drivers.

"We want people to see that we're out there, and by riding quietly, that brings more awareness because we're just riding along silently and then they realize we all belong here," said event organizer Ross Willard.
