Many consider York the weightlifting capital of the nation, so it should be no surprise it is home to one of the world's top weightlifting physicians.

Dr. Mark Lavallee of Wellspan Health, is also the Chairman of the USA Weightlifting Federation's Sports Medicine Program.  He will be the American weightlifting team's only physician for the upcoming international Pan Am Games.
Dr. Lavallee is a power lifter himself, and says working with Team USA for the last two decades has been the highlight of his career.

"They want someone who can push them. How can we do that safely? That's the challenge. I may see the same injury the week before. The challenge is I have someone on the line, how can I help that person maintain a lifelong goal while representing the country they love," says Dr. Lavallee.

The Pan-American games will run from July 10-26 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It's a smaller version of the Olympics, but still features over 6,000 athletes. There are a total of 36 sports, including diving, basketball, baseball, wrestling and of course weightlifting.
