DOVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Sherry Verbeeck and her husband Tom have gotten used to cleaning their Dover Township, York County home in recent weeks. Married only five weeks ago, the newlyweds have already started to move into a new home in Intercourse, Lancaster County. However, nothing could prepare Sherry for the clean-up job she was given Monday.
The Verbeeck's home on the 2900 block of Hemlock Drive was broken into late Sunday night by David Ryan Kauffman, 18, of Paradise, Lancaster County. Police say Kauffman, who according to Sherry Verbeeck, knows the family's daughter, then invited multiple people over to the home without anyone's permission. At one point during the evening, Kauffman became angry at two partygoers, Wesley Lynn and Connor MacDonald, for cooking hamburgers, according to the Northern York County Regional Police Department. When the two confronted Kauffman moments later, police say he stabbed each in the torso; Lynn four times, and MacDonald once.
Tom Verbeeck received a call from Northern York County Police shortly after 5 a.m. Monday. He was in Toronto on business, Sherry said. When she showed up at the house shortly after 7 a.m., she arrived to a home ransacked.
"It was splattered with blood. It's on the floor and on the ceiling," Verbeeck said of the room where the stabbing occurred, blood trails staining the wall hours after she tried to clean it. "I couldn't get all of it out."
Most of the damage inside the home was done to the kitchen, dining room, and living room. Sherry Verbeeck, her sister, and brother-in-law, spent all of Monday cleaning. Police say partygoers threw eggs at the Verbeeck's flat-screen television while egg yolk splattered on the wall behind the set. Verbeeck used Q-Tips to scrape dried teriyaki sauce out of the crevices of a painting. Her sister was scrubbing salad dressing out of the dining room table seat cushions.
"We'll have to replace them," Verbeeck said of the dining room set. "We're thankful they didn't take anything or steal anything or break anything. And nobody died."
Lynn and MacDonald eventually called police and were picked up by an ambulance at a Weis Markets parking lot on Carlisle Road in Dover Twp. Their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
David Ryan Kauffman's whereabouts are unknown, according to the NYCRPD. He is being charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, criminal mischief, aggravated assault, and criminal trespass.
