LANCASTER, Pa. – A traffic stop leads to the arrest of a Lancaster City man on drug charges. The arrest of  Shawn Wesley, Jr., 27, of the first block of South Ann Street, was the result of an investigation into neighborhood complaints of ongoing drug activity in the southeast section of the city.

While conducting that investigation today, Selective Enforcement Unit officers James Boas and Jason Hagy observed a red Chrysler Sebring coupe being driven by Wesley.

Both officers recognized Wesley and knew that his drivers license had been suspended for a previous DUI conviction. They initiated a traffic stop in the 400 block of Green Street for the Vehicle Code violation.

As the officers approached the open driver and passenger side windows of the car they detected the odor of burnt marijuana emanating from the interior. Wesley, who was the only occupant, was removed from the vehicle and when he stepped out police saw a clear plastic knotted bag of cocaine and a small bag of marijuana resting on the driver side seat.

A further search of the car yielded an additional bag of cocaine and a marijuana cigarette in the center console and $1,651.00 in cash spilling out from under the driver side seat.  Numerous small clear plastic baggies indicative of drug sales were also seized.  A total of 4.46 grams of cocaine was seized with a street value of over $400.00.

Charges against Wesley include Possession With Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Possession of Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Driving While Operating Privilege is Suspended or Revoked (DUI related).

Wesley was held for arraignment.
