NEW HOLLAND, Pa. - Police in New Holland, Lancaster County are trying a new tactic to stop dangerous driving.
They've posted signs at intersections where they've received complaints about speeding or rolling stops. They say "Complete Stops: Free. Rolling Stops: $128.50. Your Choice."
Police are hoping they'll make people think twice at stops signs. There are five signs posted throughout New Holland and Earl Township. One is at the corner of Custer and Conestoga in New Holland, where residents say they've called the police for years.
"When we had children we used to call the police," says neighbor John Anderson. "And they did their part and would sit out during those hours and, but it's been a problem."
The signs went up a few weeks ago.
"Signs went up at intersections where we received many complaints about people rolling through the stop signs," says Chief Donald Bowers. "We've enforced all the intersections where we had the complaint, that apparently wasn't doing the trick, we thought the signs might be an aid to that."
The cost is $18 per sign and the borough may add more. Three police agencies in Lancaster County have already shown interest in adding them as well.
