Firefighters battle 2-alarm blaze at Columbia apartment

COLUMBIA, Pa. – Firefighters battle a fast moving 2 alarm at a large apartmCOLUMBIAIMG_20150904_153135711COLUMBIAIMG_20150904_153535748COLUMBIAIMG_8804ent building in Columbia. The fire was reported just before 2 o’clock this afternoon. The first fire crews to arrive on the scene reported heavy smoke billowing from the second floor of the two story brick building at the intersection of North 4th Street and Avenue G.

Heavy fire spread quickly along the roof line of the building. Flames were also pouring from second floor windows. A second alarm called for more firefighters. Firefighters began cutting holes in the roof of the building to vent the smoke.

So far no report of injuries.  The American Red Cross is assisting approximately 10 people displaced by the fire.

A State Police Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
