PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Penn State opened its 2015 season with one of the program's more embarrassing losses in recent memory.

The Nittany Lions lost to Temple 27-10, their first loss to the Owls since 1941, a stretch of 39 consecutive games.

Penn State's offense, which was much-maligned last season for allowing 44 sacks and often times, being stagnant, showed signs early on it improved in the offseason. The Nittany Lions jumped out to a 10-0 lead after Joey Julius (Lower Dauphin) kicked a 34-yard field goal and Akeel Lynch scored on a 42-yard touchdown run.

Temple was able to grab momentum and Penn State failed to score the rest of the game. Junior quarterback Christian Hackenberg was sacked 10 times, and threw for just 103 yards on 11 of 25 completions. He also threw one interception.

Penn State will play its next five games at home, beginning Saturday, September 12 with Buffalo.
