HUMMELSTOWN, Pa. — In two days, more than 2,400 people had signed an online petition that called for the dismissal of Officer Lisa Mearkle. Mearkle has vowed to return to the Hummelstown force, following her acquittal on murder charges. On Thursday, a Dauphin County Jury acquitted Mearkle in the February shooting death of  David Kassick, who was unarmed.

Andy Hoover, the organizer of the group 'Hummelstown for Accountability' posted the petition on change.org. So far signatures having been coming in nationwide, and also from the surrounding area.

"The petition is giving people in Hummelstown and the surrounding area the opportunity to say, 'hey, we have a concern here, and we are very concerned with the possibility of this officer returning to the force," said Andy Cooper, organizer of Hummelstown for Accountability.

FOX43  reached out to the Hummelstown Police Chief and Officer Lisa Markle's attorney for comment, but did not get a response.

Members of the group plan to voice their concerns at the Hummelstown Borough council meeting on Thursday.
