CARLISLE, Pa. -  A group of local gymnasts are using shoe boxes to help kids around the world.

Gymnasts at the Cumberland Gymnastics Center in Carlisle packed over 200 shoe boxes full of toys that included cars, dolls, and balls that they collected in the past few months.

The boxes have been wrapped with care and will shipped out to kids around the globe as part of a project called Operation Christmas Child.

"We started packing boxes probably about 5 to 7 years ago," Center Owner Melanie Sheriff said. "I actually did it with my church and then I decided to bring it here with my competitive team girls. This year, we packed 221 boxes."

Operation Christmas Child was started by Samaritan's Purse. The Christian organization provides aide to people all around the world.
