HARRISBURG, Pa.-- Pittsburgh Steelers' quarterback Michael Vick is now supporting a bill to help protect animals. Vick served time in jail for being involved in dog fighting.

He is supporting House Bill 1516. It is also known as the "Pet in Cars" bill. It would criminalize leaving pets in cars on hot days and allow law enforcement to get pets out if they see them. The bill would leave the car owner liable for damage to the car.

"Too long we've seen this happen over the summer months," bill sponsor Representative Kevin Schreiber from York County said.

Vick said his support of the bill is his move to change as a person.

"I know I'm an unlikely advocate," Vick said. "It's not talked about enough, and I can't continue to reiterate to take time for the care of animals."

Representative Schreiber said he welcomes the support.

"Whatever it takes to get it across the finish line," he said.

He hopes the bill can be made into law before this coming summer.
