CONEWAGO TWP., Pa. - As firefighters wrapped up work on a house fire on Susquehanna Trail Wednesday afternoon, they acknowledged the preparations they are undertaking for the expected snowstorm over the weekend.

The weather did not play too much of a role in the firefighting efforts Wednesday, but as the snow piles up and the temperature dips, they say it is positive training should an emergency arise, with the biggest challenge being what is usually their best friend: water.

"It's ice, the water from the ice, it's also the strain on the manpower," Strinestown fire Chief Frosty Wertz said. "It's a lot harder because of the hazardous situation mostly because of the water."

Wertz said his firefighters are planning to meet Thursday night to review their emergency plans.

"We have a plow, we're going to coordinate with the township so we're ready," Wertz said. "We hope we don't get it, but we're prepared if it is."
