YORK COUNTY, Pa. – A Maryland man is accused of ramming a police cruiser twice during a high speed chase involving several York County police departments and Maryland Deputy Sheriffs over the weekend.

The incident began at about 3:40 pm Sunday,  Sheriffs Deputies received a report of an erratic driver in the Melrose area of Carroll County, Maryland. Deputies attempted to stop Ray Ashford Thompson, III, 43, of Manchester, Maryland, who was driving a 2004 GMC pickup truck. Thompson fled from deputies for several miles eventually entering Pennsylvania east of Glenville in Codorus Township. Maryland officers discontinued the pursuit but continued to follow Thompson who was speeding, weaving about the roadway and illegally passing which forced several vehicles off the roadway.

Pennsylvania  officers then attempted to stop Thompson on Route 216 in the Glenville area where he again fled. On Route 216 in Codorus State Park Thompson intentionally rammed into a West Manheim Township cruiser resulting in damage. After striking the West Manheim cruiser Thompson continued on Route 216 for several more miles to the Clair’s Restaurant where he turned into the parking lot. Two West Manheim cruisers block him in to end the pursuit however Thompson rammed the West Manheim cruiser again causing additional damage. Thompson was then removed from the truck and arrested.

Thompson was charged with three counts of DUI, aggravated assault on police, recklessly endangering another person, reckless driving, careless driving and driving on a suspended license.

He was taken to central booking for processing and arraignment.
