YORK, Pa. - Leaders in York are digging into a renovation project on the county Heritage Rail Trail. City Mayor Kim Bracey joined members of the County Department of Parks & Recreation as well as Downtown Inc. for a groundbreaking ceremony for the rail trail. The special ceremony was held at the Colonial Complex on North Pershing Avenue at the start of the rail trail.

A 1.4 mile stretch of the trail will be closed for the next few months while construction crew re-pave the trail, add new lights, and make other improvements.

"This is one of the best things we could do for York County," York County Commissioner, Susan Byrnes said, "To encourage people to get out here from the four year-olds to the 104 year-olds. We're going to make this path easy to access and to talk, to run, [as well as] to bike."

The project is expected to be completed by mid-summer.
