RICHMOND, Va. – The man who authorities say opened fire on a Virginia State Police trooper Thursday at a Greyhound bus station in Richmond, Virginia, has died, Corinne Geller with the Virginia State Police told reporters.

The trooper he shot was transported to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, she said. Two civilians were also transported for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.

Previously, a Richmond City councilwoman told CNN a trooper was killed.

“We’re not going to get into any details at this point. As you can imagine, this still is in the early stages of the investigation,” Geller said.

Images showed law enforcement on the scene. Police cars blocked streets and yellow tape cordoned off the area.

A spokeswoman for Greyhound had confirmed earlier that there was an ongoing incident. The station is closed.

“We will re-route customers as possible and we will reissue tickets once we resume service if you are supposed to travel to or from Richmond today,” the company said.
