CHESTER, Pa.- Two people are confirmed dead after an accident involving an Amtrak train in Chester, Delaware County. Amtrak has suspended all service between Philadelphia and New York City. Amtrak says a train traveling from New York to Savannah, Georgia has derailed in Chester, Delaware County.
The accident was reported around 8 a.m. Sunday near Booth Street on the Palmetto train 89.
According to Amtrak, there were about 341 passengers and seven crew members on board.
Initial reports are that some passengers are being treated for injuries. Local emergency responders are on the scene and an investigation is ongoing.
Northeast Corridor service between New York and Philadelphia is suspended.
