SELINSGROVE, PA– Hilde Kate Lysiak is a writer, reporter, and publisher of The Orange Street News, dedicated to covering what’s going on in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania…and she’s also 9-years-old.

Lysiak has recently faced backlash after covering a murder that happened “just a few blocks” from her house on April 2nd. Lysiak says she was able to confirm the incident with sources and report on the crime before her competitors.

After publishing the story Lysiak says she received multiple messages criticizing her work saying she should  be “playing with dolls.” Another message said “I am disgusted that this cute little girl thinks she is a real journalist. What happened to tea parties?”

Lysiak responded with the above YouTube video stating her case to her critics and saying, “I know this makes some of you uncomfortable, and I know some of you just want me to sit down and be quiet because I’m [9]…But if you want me to stop covering news, then you get off your computer and do something about the news. There, is that cute enough for you?”

Lysiak has been running the Orange Street News since 2014 with the help of her father, Matthew Lysiak, a former reporter for the New York Daily News, and her 12-year-old sister, Isabel Rose Lysiak.
