DALLASTOWN, Pa. - A student at Dallastown Area High School in York County says her foot went through the floor of her school bus last month, and a FOX43 investigation revealed the bus was cleared to carry students only 20 days prior.

The incident happened on March 28 as 16 year-old Kirsta Heighes took the bus to school. Her family says her foot fell through a crack in the floor-- leaving her scraped and bruised.

FOX43 uncovered Bus S-2 was used that morning and is a 15 year-old spare. It was last inspected by Durham School Services on March 8.

"As safety is our top priority, we reexamined every bus in the fleet,"  the bus company said in a statement. "As an additional measure to ensure buses are road ready, we have deployed regional and corporate team members from the areas of safety, operations and maintenance to help review maintenance processes and files in Dallastown."

State Police handle annual inspections for school buses. FOX43 spoke to the Lieutenant who reviewed the incident's police report.

"Absent stepping on every step in the vehicle, it something that with a hairline crack would be difficult to see," Lt. Robert Krol said. "Just doing a walk through, visual inspection of the floor, it seemed like the integrity was good."

Dallastown School District has not responded to requests for comment in the last week.
