HARRISBURG, Pa.– PennDOT maintenance crews for Adams County this morning reopened the bridge that carries Mason Dixon Road over a tributary of Marsh

Creek called Butch Cassidy Run in Freedom Township. The crossing had been closed since March 31 for a bridge replacement project. The bridge is located in the vicinity of Horner Road, about ½-mile north of the state line with Maryland. Mason Dixon Road is officially designated as State Route 3002 and carries an average daily traffic volume of 443 vehicles. The previous bridge was built in 1933, but had deteriorated over time and was classified as structurally deficient. There was also a weight limit on the bridge prohibiting loads greater than 30 tons. PennDOT’s county maintenance crews have replaced the bridge’s superstructure and have repointed the masonry abutment walls.
