Perry County man pleads guilty to multi-county robbery spree

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. – Edward Mitchell, of Perry County man pleaded guilty in Dauphin County Court on Monday, May 23rd to a series of robberies in February of 2015. The robberies spanned through Lower Paxton and Susquehanna Townships in Dauphin County, as well as Enola and Hampden Townships in Cumberland County.

Mitchell plead guilty to the following robberies:

  • February 12, 2015: K-Mart, 5050 Jonestown Road, Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County
  • February 13, 2015: K-Mart, 5600 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg, Cumberland County
  • February 14, 2015: Metro Bank, 3951 Union Deposit Road, Susquehanna Township, Dauphin County
  • February 15, 2015: K-Mart, 463 Enola Road, Enola, Cumberland County
  • February 16, 2015: Metro Bank, 4350 Linglestown Road

Mitchell committed each robbery in a substantially similar manner, using written notes and verbal threats that he either had a weapon or would hurt the tellers he would approach in order to force them to give him money. He would then flee once the victims gave him money, and in at least one instance he had a co-conspirator drive him from the scene.

Mitchell was seen on video surveillance at each robbery scene at the time of the crimes, and each victim was able to identify and/or describe his appearance.  He was finally arrested on February 17, 2015 with co-defendant Gwen Arnett and another individual in a known drug-related Susquehanna Township residence with cash from the robberies, as well as various items of drug paraphernalia. Hel subsequently confessed to all of the robberies.

Pursuant to a negotiated plea agreement, Mitchell will be sentenced to 15 to 35 years in a State Correctional Institute for the robberies. Formal sentencing by Judge Richard Lewis is scheduled for June 28th.
