HARRISBURG, Pa. – On Tuesday, July 5, PennDOT will close the bridge that carries Beecherstown Road over the Conewago Creek in Butler Township, Adams County. The bridge is just southeast of Arendtsville and carries an average daily traffic of nearly 600 vehicles.

Though Beecherstown Road is a township road, the bridge is owned and maintained by PennDOT. It will be closed to all traffic for about a month for repairs. Traffic will be detoured by way of Blue Ribbon Road, State Route 3017 (Mummasburg Road in Franklin Township and Gettysburg Street in Arendtsville), Route 234, and back to Beecherstown Road. The bridge should reopen to traffic by early August.

The bridge repair work will be performed for PennDOT by J.D. Eckman, Inc. of Atglen, as part of an overall multi-year $7.4-million contract for bridge repairs covering nearly two dozen bridges throughout south central Pennsylvania.

The work for the Beecherstown Road bridge includes debris removal, scour protection, milling and paving the roadway approaches, latex wearing surface, deteriorated concrete repair, joint repair, and traffic line painting.
