LANCASTER, Pa. -- Flooding on Route 30 in Lancaster County turned into a nightmare for drivers.

Katelyn Buckwalter, who lives in Lititz, said, "I got stopped by all this flooding. At first I thought it was just typical Route 30 traffic but it turned out differently. There was a lot of flooding and I later found out that there's two sinkholes over here that they're not letting us get through."

People started trying to drive around the flooding before police closed off the road.

"There was an SUV that was turning to the left and trying to go up the hill and trying to turn around and everything, which was a pretty dangerous move just because that sinkhole is right there," Buckwalter said.

But others were not as lucky.

Jeremiah Sanchez said, "We kind of did a U-turn. When we did a u-turn, the pothole fell in, the ground broke and made it into a sinkhole."

A sinkhole opened up between the area where Route 30 and Route 462 converge in Lancaster County.

Police closed off the area with tape and stopped traffic.

Sanchez said, "We tried to stay calm but they were crying. I told them it was gonna be alright and my mom didn't want to move because she thought the car was going to tip over."

His mom and siblings safely got out and their car was towed. Traffic started moving again about two hours later.

The road where the sinkhole is is blocked off and there is no word as to when it will reopen.
