FAIRVIEW TOWNSHIP, Pa.-Former state budget secretary Charles Zogby was arrested over the weekend after police say he assaulted his wife in Fairview Township.

Zogby, 54, is charged with simple assault and harassment. He was arraigned Sunday and released on $2,500 unsecured bail.

Officers with the Fairview Township Police Department responded to a home along the 600 block of Moore’s Mountain Road for a report of a physical domestic on Saturday around 7:30 p.m.

Investigators arrived at the home and found a 52-year-old Georgina Zogby crying, with blood on her face and hands. Georgina told police that Zogby attacked her and punched her in the face several times, according to the criminal complaint. She said the couple were not arguing, that Charles just attacked her and tried choking her, court records state.

Police spoke with Zogby who stated he was arguing with his wife. When police asked about her injuries, Zogby only said to ask Georgina, according to the criminal complaint.

Zogby was arrested at the scene.

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Aug. 29.

Zogby served as education secretary and policy director under Gov. Tom Ridge, education secretary under Gov. Mark Schweiker and budget secretary under Gov. Tom Corbett.
