Should I worry about chromium-6 in my drinking water?

CARLISLE, Pa. — The Borough of Carlisle has released a statement saying that its Longs Gap Road Water Plant Facility is back on the line producing, treating and distributing water to consumers.  The borough has successfully repaired the filtration equipment and appurtenances necessary for the treatment and distribution of water.

Due to the ability to now produce and distribute water, the Borough has lifted the mandatory water restriction that was imposed on Dec. 1.   Consumers are now free to use water for any desired purpose.

According to Borough Manager Matt Candland, “The Borough’s Water Treatment Plant began distributing processed water late this morning. To date, the Borough has four filters on-line. The Borough’s water inventory has been replenished to a point that the Borough is comfortable lifting the Mandatory Water Restriction.”

The Borough says they will continue to look over its water supply over the next few days.

Although the Borough will be self-sufficient there is still a lot of work to be done.  The Borough will continue to bring all systems and equipment online, further investigate and remedy the causes of the flooding, evaluate its response to this event, and a host of other tasks.

Due to the plant being out of commission for a few days, and DEP’s regulated disinfection start-up rules, consumers may experience a slight increase in chlorine taste or smell over the course of the next several days.

Questions may be directed to Public Works Director Mark Malarich or Assistant Borough Manager Susan Armstrong at 717-240-6930 or 717-240-6920 respectively.
