STEELTON, DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa.–A man is accused of  lying to police about being robbed in Steelton earlier this month in order to hide from his wife that he was with another woman.

Erik Shepler, 37,  is charged with making false reports to law enforcement officers.

Steelton police responded to the 300 block of South 2nd Street for a reported robbery on December 6. Officers found Shepler  laying on the floor, claiming he needed medical attention. Shepler’s wife told police that he had been missing for 12 hours and he had been the victim of a robbery.

According to police reports, Shepler claimed he had been hit over the head as he was leaving a bar on Front Street and could not remember anything from the past 12 hours. Shepler said he woke up in an alley and his ATM card was stolen.

Police later found surveillance video showing Shepler was with another woman in a Turkey Hill buying cigarettes and hot dogs. Detectives interviewed the woman who said Shepler picked her up at a bar and they went back to her place where they spent the night together drinking.

Police viewed security footage of the woman’s apartment building, which corroborated her story.
