MANCHESTER TOWNSHIP, YORK COUNTY, Pa — State Police say a 27-year-old New Oxford man is dead following a traffic stop and police involved-shooting on Saturday morning in Manchester Township.
State Police say a Northern York County Regional Police officer came across a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot of Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene in Manchester Township around 3:20 a.m. on Saturday.
The officer made contact with the man inside, and identified the him as Gregory Stough, of New Oxford. Police noticed that he was wanted on 4 traffic warrants and a was driving on a suspended drivers license.
At this time, a second officer arrived to help take him into custody, says police.
Stough resisted officers attempts to place him under arrest. During the struggle, he put his vehicle in reverse, and accelerated backwards trapping the officer between the door and car. Police say he then continued in reverse and propelled the officer into a parked cruiser.
That’s when a second officer began shooting, in defense of the other officers life.
Once the officer started shooting, Stough started driving forward towards the shooting officer, who continued firing shots, killing Stough.
One officer suffered minor injuries.
The officer that fired the shots is currently on administrative leave.
State Police in conjunction with the York County Coroner and District Attorney’s office are investigating.
