Crews were dispatched to the scene around 9:50 p.m. on Wednesday night.
The crash involved a tractor trailer, a truck, and at least three other vehicles.
The York County Coroner says that Terrena Carson, 43, of Harrisburg, was pronounced dead at York Hospital at 10:47 p.m. on Wednesday.
The first crash occurred when a Ford-F250 struck the rear end of a Dodge 1500 truck. That impact caused the Ford to strike a concrete median which left it disabled partially in the left lane of Interstate 83.
Initial reports from State Police say that Carson was driving a Jeep and was involved in the second of two crashes.
Both Carson and a tractor trailer attempted to avoid the Ford-F250 before colliding.
Carson’s Jeep was reportedly struck by a tractor trailer after that tractor trailer had hit a disabled pickup truck. The Jeep proceeded to crash into a tow truck before flipping on its side.
As of 7:50 a.m Thursday morning, I-83 NB has reopened.
The West Shore School District sent out this message to parents regarding the crash:
“Good Morning, This is the West Shore School District with an important message regarding transportation. I-83 North is closed from Exit 32 Newberrytown to Exit 33 Yocumtown due to a multiple vehicle crash. No District vehicles are involved. The closure will likely create bus delays and problems for parents and students traveling in the area. Thank you for your patience.”
