Beating the heat indoors | FOX43 makes several stops at activities you can enjoy this summer

It's summer, and it's hot, but Central Pennsylvania has several indoor activities available for families.

DAUPHIN COUNTY, Pa. — Summer is officially here, and it certainly feels like it, with hot temperatures in Central Pennsylvania.

Since school is out, you may be looking for some places to bring your kids to cool off while staying safe.

On FOX43 Morning News, we decided to check out some of these "cool" places.

Our first stop was at Imaginary Friends Puppet Theater in Harrisburg, a spot that's full of not only puppet shows, but it's also full of heart.

Bill Kassay, the production manager of the theater, said, "It's a terrific place to bring your kids. You know, puppetry is a great gateway for live theater for kids...they're not getting overwhelmed with too much action."

Imaginary Friends has plenty of shows happening throughout the summer and they've got air conditioning, too!

While you're in the Harrisburg area, you could head across the street to the Whitaker Center where science and education come together. Right now, they have a traveling exhibit known as Magnificent Me.

Kristin James, STEAM curriculum manager of the center added, "We got lots of play based learning, so it's a fun, you know, great to get out of your house but stay cool."

If you really want to "stay cool" you can head to Twin Ponds Ice Arena, one of the only places you'll need a jacket and gloves right now.

Lisa Plumeri, one of the figure skating directors at the ice arena, shared, "We have skating all week long. We have freestyle sessions...We have learn-to-skate sessions on Monday evenings. We have public sessions on Mondays and Fridays and then we even have a learn to skate going on this whole week as well."

And finally, if you're feeling adventurous, you and the family could visit Urban Air Adventure Park.

Sydney Gill, marketing and outreach coordinator for the park, explained they have more than just trampolines.

"We have indoor go-karts, addition to the trampoline. We also have a sky rider, which is kind of similar to like a zip line situation. We also have a VR experience. There's a lot of arcade games, there's a ball pit, there's dodge ball, so there's a lot of different things for a lot of different ages to do here."
